  It's October, and around here that means Hallowe'en! Hallowe'en has Celtic origins and is widely celebrated in Ireland so we like to keep the tradition going.

  We'll have traditional Hallowe'een games, and hotdogs & cookies will be served.

  We have a winner! For the next meeting of the Swedish-Irish Society Book Club we will be reading Solar Bones by Mike McCormack! Hope you enjoy the book and see you all on November 6!
  
  Set in Louisburgh, Co Mayo on All Souls’ Day 2008, Mike McCormack’s Solar Bones (2016) takes us into the world of Marcus Conway, ‘husband, father and a civil engineer in some small way responsible for the wild rush of buildings, roads and bridges that disrupted life in Ireland during the boom that in the book has just gone bust.’ The novel is a ‘magnificent song’ according to Ian Sansom, possessing ‘such peculiar depth, such consonances and dissonances that it is a reminder that a writer of talent can seemingly take any place, any set of characters, any situation and create from them a total vision of the reality. This is a book about Mayo, Ireland, Europe, the world, the solar system, the universe.’
  Come and join us on November 6 – a few days after All Souls’ – for a lively discussion of life and death in Solar Bones!

  Our always popular annual Christmas dinner returns!

  It’s always a great night of Swedish and Irish traditions with new and old friends. 

  Join us to get a taste of "home away from home". A welcome drink will be followed by a Swedish Christmas buffet with an Irish touch. We've even arranged for a certain special very dark Irish beverage to be available...

  For entertainment we usually have a raffle with great prizes, traditional carol singing, and if we're lucky, live music by a local trubadour.

  The location couldn't be more central - a stone's throw from T-centralen, in the atmospheric and charming Läkarsällskapet hus (built 1904-6).
