October Book Club: ”Blackbird House” by Alice Hoffman

Our next book will be American writer Alice Hoffman’s Blackbird House (2004). Set in a farmhouse on the tip of Cape Cod in rural Massachussetts, Blackbird House is a collection of twelve intricately connected stories that trace the history of the farm's inhabitants over 200 years. From a storm raging in 1778 to the present day, stories of love and loss are woven through the history of the house, its inhabitants and its ghosts. "I feel like in my life I have such a rational, pessimistic outlook,” Alice Hoffman said in an interview, “and what I do in my fiction is allow myself to go to a place I would never go to in real life."
